Con mi familia anfitriona (With my host family)

Introduction:

This week, I speak from my perspective, as well as from that of Rodrigo and Sofía, my host siblings.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

In Uruguay, we eat a small breakfast – maybe crackers or bread, mermelada (jam), mantequilla (butter), and café con leche (coffee with milk). This happens depending on when you wake up.

Then lunch is pretty big – it could be asado (barbecue), pasta, pizza, milanesa (breaded meat cutlet). The variety is huge, but it often looks like what we might think of as dinner in the United States. There's also a big Italian influence here, so again, pizza and pasta is common. In my opinion, some of thei pizza here competes with NYC pizza! Lunch happens between 1pm and 2:30pm.

Lastly, dinner comes pretty late – again, this is similar to Italy's way! You might find yourself eating more than you're used to late at night, around 9pm. I've had to adjust to this, because usually I don't like to go to bed with a full stomach!

Side note: I love their empanadas here. Have you heard of empanadas? We can talk about them during our video conference :) And I'll explain why I prefer the empanadas in Argentina and Uruguay to those in other countries. Hint: It was to do with the masa, or dough.
