Con mi familia anfitriona (With my host family)

What is your house like?:

I live with a host family. There's a mom, dad, teenage daughter, and little brother. They all have their own rooms upstairs and I live downstairs in the bedroom of their son, who's away at Harvard University.

The house is large to me because I'm used to small apartments in NYC. In fact, I'm so used to smaller spaces that I don't have a useful way to compare this house with any other!

What chores do you have at home?:

When the family is away, I help take care of the dogs and cat. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention – we have two dogs and one cat. But those are the only chores I do. Everything else is taken care of by one or other of my host parents! I was surprised when the family even offered to do my laundry. ¡Que lujo! What a luxury!

After a while of not doing many chores, I decided to help with washing dishes and folding the laundry. After all, I have to do my part! This family is so kind for taking me in. They have offered me a safe space to come home to, one that is full of activity, some drama, but is loving, all the same. I feel muy agradecida (very grateful) to be living with these people.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Adriana is a school teacher, and Gabriel works at an energy plant. I'm not quite sure what he does there, but he also takes classes at the local technological university.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Rodrigo, who is six years old, begins school at 8 AM and goes home at 5 PM. Sofía, who's in high school, usually only has classes in the morning and returns home at 1 PM. It confused me at first, how she always got home so early!
