Con mi familia anfitriona (With my host family)

There are many differences in the school system here, compared to what I know in the USA.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I work at the local university. Because Fray Bentos is a small town, sometimes I walk; it's only 35 minutes away from my family's house. I love to walk, and I almost always feel safe (especially during the day), so it's been great to have the option. I don't like being dependent on a car. But other times my mentor and I go in her car.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

We often have lunch together at home. As I said before, I love empanadas, but those are more of a snack. For lunch, I like pizza and vegetables.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Spanish: ¡Hola!

You can also greet someone with ¿Cómo estás? or ¿Cómo andas? They roughly mean How are you?, even though "andas" refers to walking...

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

First names:

Lucas

Tomás

Pablo

Sofía

Augustina

Valentina

Last names:

Rodríguez

Periera

López

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

I studied psychology in college, but I just love school; I'm interested in most things, although math and physics sometimes scare me...

What is your homework like?:

Kids' homework is very similar to the homework I've seen in the States!
