- Canelones – this is a name, so, like "empanadas", we don't need to translate it. Canelones are crepe-like pancakes used to wrap up all sorts of delicious ingredients.
- de – "with" or "of".
- jamón – It kind of sounds like its English translation: "Ham".
- queso – That's cheese! We have a joke here: "¿Qué es eso?" (What is that?) "¡Queso!" (Cheese!) It works better in Spanish because of the similarity in sounds between the question and the answer. Try to tell this joke to your teacher or friend! Maybe they will surprise you with their wonderful knowledge of Spanish :) There are many Spanish-speakers in New York...
- crema – This also sounds like its English translation: "Cream".
- y – "and".
- maíz – That would be corn!

How did I feel when I tried it?: When I ate the canelones con _____, queso, crema y _____, (Do you remember? Hehehehe...), I felt comforted and impressed. It's a heavy dish, rich and satisfying with the creaminess of the sauce. It also looked pretty on the plate, with some herbs sprinkled on top to give it a pop of green.
I wish I had taken a picture! But at the same time, I'm glad I didn't; now, you can imagine your own version of this dish in your heads, using the descriptions I shared with you.
How is the food prepared?: First, you must prepare the masa, or the dough, of the canelones. This dough is what keeps everything wrapped snugly inside!
