Rain, Rain, and More Rain!

Introduction:

The overall climate of Asturias is cool and damp. Because it is located on the coast, the cool sea air cools down most of the province and brings some precipitation. During the fall and winter (the rainy seasons), it rains almost every day! The yearly average rainfall is a little over three feet. Although I complain about the weather, this rainy season is incredibly important to the people of Asturias and the environment in which they live.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Asturias is known as a natural paradise, a place where people go to escape the hustle and bustle of the city in order to enjoy everything that nature has to offer. There are so many national parks and nature preserves around the province that there is no way I will be able to explore them all before I leave Spain! Even the urban areas, like Oviedo, are full of public parks and green spaces for the city residents to enjoy. This natural paradise would not be possible without the constant rain in the fall and winter months. The people of Asturias are very proud of their province and the beauty it has to offer. Every time I hear an Asturian complain about the rain, they finish their complaint by talking about all the greenery that they will be able to enjoy once its over.
