There's a saying in Ecuador that there are no seasons, because you experience all of them in a single day. At 6:30 a.m., it is misty and cold, but by 11:00 a.m., the sun beats down unforgivingly, creating a sweltering heat and blinding brightness. A lot of people counter it with umbrellas, which they use again around 3:00 p.m. when the thunder, lightning and pouring rain appears.
Whenever I am walking around Quito, I notice a couple of common animals, including mourning doves, stray dogs, working horses, hummingbirds, and the Andean condor. In Mindo, the wildlife is a lot more diverse. There are thousands of species of birds, butterflies and other bugs!
