It's hard to believe that four months ago I was landing in Ecuador to begin my Fulbright grant, starting a new chapter of my life over 4,000 miles from my home and the class for whom I've been writing. The time has flown by, and I miss some things every day.  For example, I miss toilet paper in bathroom stalls! But thanks to my time here, I've grown in ways I never expected. I've tried so many new foods, learned so many interesting things and have cultivated lifelong friendships. I encourage you, dear readers, to travel as much as you can. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the planet and the people we share it with.

People are what make places worthwhile. Yes, there is beautiful architecture here, especially as seen in the old churches. There is also a grandma selling ice cream right outside those churches, with a cure for your stuffy nose if you have the courage to ask. Yes, there is delicious food here. There are also talented chefs whipping up that food for the cost of pocket change. There's my transcriber team, including Meliza, Shanik and Hugo. There are countless people who have been part of my time here, however briefly, and I have always been struck by their compassion and patience.
