There are many different means of travel in Belém, Brazil and throughout the state of Pará. In the city, the main means of travel is by public bus. On the university campus, people travel to the different parts of the campus by university bus. There are students who travel from other cities to the university campus by boat!
People travel around by various means! Many travel by boat from outside of Belém in order to sell their merchandise at the markets in town, or to study at the university.
I felt like an explorer when I traveled to a neighboring city, Bacarena, by boat!
Travel by boat is very much a part of the culture of Pará. For many, it is the quickest, or only, way to travel to various cities throughout the state. Outside of the state, traveling by boat would not be as normal - and might even be seen as quite exotic!
