Belém: A City on the Amazon River

Introduction:

While Belém is located in the mouth of the Amazon, many of the people living in the city have never visited the Amazon jungle or experienced the natural beauty of the Amazon River.  I hope to show you the contrast of the sprawling city versus the Amazon River that sits directly outside of the city.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Every day, there are torrential rains that come in and cool down the city. Without even seeing the Amazon in the interior of the state, the effect of the weather can be tough on the city.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The climate is generally warm, humid and rainy, causing a large variety of challenges. Due to this tropical environment, there is no shortage of beautiful regions outside of the city to explore with friends!

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

There are many challenges that people face due to the tough geographic environment. The daily rains mean the roads and buildings are in a constant state of repair, with a lot of opportunity for flooding.
