It hasn't happened recently, but in the past, the river used to flood a lot when there was heavy rainfall rain in Greifswald. As a result, the bottom floors in many of the houses near the river would flood and be damaged. For instance, the apartment I live in was flooded in 2012.
People have been adapting by paying more attention to the water levels in the river, especially when there are heavy rains. They have also done things to protect their houses in case something like this happens again. My roommate says it hasn't rained a lot this year, so our apartment should be safe!
