Germany's Springtime Flower

Introduction:

I have noticed many different types of flowers blooming on the walk to my apartment from the supermarket. There is one specific, very bright yellow flower that I have noticed growing wild in some places. I've noticed that this flower is also planted in some places, mostly around monuments or in parks. The flower is a daffodil or Narzisse in German. It can be found in the United States as well. However, I wanted to know what made them so popular in Germany.

Daffodils are popular in Germany as both a symbol of Spring and as a symbol to welcome of the Easter season. Germans sometimes even refer to daffodils as 'Easter bells'. Germans traditionally believe that the flowers begin to grow at the beginning of lent and only fully bloom on Easter Sunday.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Daffodils are bright yellow flowers. They have six petals and a cone shaped center. They normally grow in small groups of one or two flowers.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

Because these are some of the bigger and brighter wildflowers in Germany, I notice them right away and they make me really happy! It's nice to see flowers after a long, cold and grey winter.

Where does it live?:

You can find these flowers in the wilderness or planted throughout Greifswald.
