Small, daily pujas help build a friendship with a god. Big, fancy pujas help celebrate important religious or personal events. The pujas I have gone to have lots of people, food and excitement to see! These events bring the community together.
Puja is definitely connected to the environment. The offerings given - incense, orange flowers, sweets and more - are precious objects here in the city. I'd feel important if someone gave these things to me, so I bet the god also likes to get these gifts.
