Monkeying Around

Introduction:

In the United States, monkeys are zoo-animals that are only seen behind the bars of cages. Throughout India, however, monkeys roam wild! Because they are out and about, these animals are always getting into trouble. I've seen monkeys see-sawing in the park, ripping underwear off of clotheslines and stealing garbage. So much monkeying around!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The monkeys in Delhi always look mischievious. They are the size of house-cats, which is to say, brownish-gray in color; and they have huge eyes that they use to spy on you. To move, they either walk, swing, or jump! So you had better watch out!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

Nowadays, I think of monkeys in the same way as I do raccoons: in other words, these are normal animals in my environment, but they are ones that I won't feed, touch or even approach! I give the monkeys their space, and they usually stay out of mine.

Where does it live?:

Because Delhi is a big city, the monkeys live wherever they can. Sometimes, they live quietly in a cozy tree in a park. Othertimes, I see them on the tops of people's houses, hiding in dumpsters or crawling over parked cars.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Monkeys are super smart, so they can (and do!) use their environment and the humans in it for their own ends!
