Meet Mansur-ji!

Only when I am making my craft - wooden elephants - do I wear a t shirt.

What do you like to do in your free time?:

I like to tell stories. My favorite story to tell is about meeting Sir Edmund Hillary. If you don't know, he was the first white man to climb Everest. He came to my town to practice climbing, and he drank tea with me. This is a photo of him. I am very proud.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak my Kashmiri, some Hindi and a little English. At home, I usually greet people with a big, "Halo!"

Do you have pets?:

No. Two sons is enough.

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

When I was young, I traveled all over Kashmir. When conflict became worse, we did not leave our homes so much. Now that I live in Delhi, I try to see the big city and all the monuments and send pictures to my family.

What do you do for work?:

I create Kashmiri art to sell to Indians and foreigners. I make painted boxes, elephants and other animals. I love making the elephants the most.

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

Be grateful for where you grew up. Freedom is a precious thing.
