Bienvenidos a Cali, Colombia!

The farthest I have traveled while here was to another department (sort of like a state) called Buenaventura, which is about 75 miles away from my apartment. It was about a three-hour bus ride. In total, I have traveled over 2,500 miles.

How did I get around this week?:

This week, I mainly used a group chat my neighborhood has to carpool to the university. People will send messages like, "spots to arrive at the university at 10:00 a.m." or "spots to leave school at 5:00 p.m." It's super convenient. I also made my first friend with a car (finally!) and that was when we took the scenic drive around the city. I used a bus system called the recreativo for the first time as well. The recreativo system is made up of different little buses that go around the city and, no matter where you're going, it's only about 2,000 COP, which is less than $1 USD.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was Ambos Mundos Café Librería in the neighborhood San Antonio. It was interesting not only because it combines two of my favorite things in the world (books and coffee), but also because this past Saturday they had a poetry reading, live music and a freestyle rap show all in the same night. I've already planned to return this weekend.

Other Travel News from this week:

Since Cali is a mountain city, you really don't need to travel far to satisfy a need for adventure. If you want to hike, you can take a short bus ride to a local hiking trail and spend the day there.
