If you order a bottle of water in a restaurant, it can cost as much as four euros (about $4.49). That's a big range!

What was the best meal this week?:

I have developed a taste for French crêpes (a thin pancake-like pastry) since coming to Paris in September. My best meal this week consisted of a savory crêpe jambon fromage (with ham and cheese), and a crêpe beurre sucre (with sugar and butter) for dessert! Crêpes are made using a batter made with flour, eggs, and milk, similar to pancake batter. They are prepared using a special T-shaped tool that spreads the batter evenly across a hot, flat pan and can be filled with whatever tickles your fancy.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listen to music sometimes while I work in the lab. I like classic rock, pop, and R&B music, but am always willing to try listening to something new! My friend Julien pointed out that one of my favorite groups, Muse, performs songs where some of the lyrics are in French. We listened and tried to understand the words together.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I went to see a play called Le Paradox des jumeaux (The Twin Paradox). The play was about Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize in physics and a Nobel Prize in chemistry. Marie Curie immigrated to France from Poland to study Science in the late 1800s. She lived and conducted much of her research in Paris. She is the first woman to be buried in the Pantheon, an important historical site in Paris that celebrates the accomplishments of great men and women in France. Her lab is right down the street from mine!
