Common Transportation in Florianópolis

Introduction:

Florianópolis is a fairly large city by American standards (although it is only the 50th largest city in Brazil). However, it still has an amazing public and private transport network. It is very easy and inexpensive to travel around the island, which is good for me, since I love to go on adventures and explore new parts of my home area!

How do people get around?:

The most common mode of transportation here is the public bus. It costs about 2.00 Brazilian reals, which is about 50 cents in U.S. dollars. The bus goes to all parts of the island and runs very frequently. The next-most common form of transportation is Uber. Uber can sometimes be cheaper than the public bus, especially if you're with a group of friends sharing the cost.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I really like the taking the bus. I am used to it, having lived in Chicago, IL for college. I love to pop my earbuds in, listen to my favorite songs, and watch the city go by as the bus goes along its route. Uber can be much faster than the bus most times, so I use Uber when I'm running late or can't spend time on the bus.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Most definitely! Florianópolis is very hilly and mountainous.
