Integrating into the Community

In my experience so far, the lifestyle here is very different from that you typically find in the U.S.A. People here are pretty nice and friendly. Many people like to go to the pub (similar to a bar but cozier) most of the time as an important part of the culture. People go to the neighborhood pub as a way to relax, have a drink and, most importantly, to socialize with other people from work or from their neighborhood. Pub time is an important way to enjoy time with friends. Most people go to work for eight hours per day. Londoners like to use public transportation a lot. It is very crowded when you try to use it during typical commuting hours in the morning and evening on work days. People like to chat with each other during work, and they seem to enjoy humor and making each other laugh. It makes the working environment look very relaxing and fun. But that may be my outside perspective! Kensington is a very nice area that people would love to live in. It has some beautiful homes as well as many parks in walking distance of where I’m staying here. From what I have seen, people in my neighborhood will keep quiet at night. It seems to be a kind of community tradition, and if anyone is loud at night, they might have problem or even get a fine, too.

Since there are many immigrants and people from other parts of Europe in London, there is a unique culture with many different races of people and a great diversity of culture. Most people are respectful of each other’s cultures and try to get along, even when they have some cultural differences. Exploring all of the local stores has made me realize how convenient they are. There are many different stores that offer a variety of different groceries, and many are open very late.
