Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Yun Huang. I am from China originally. I moved to the United States a few years ago for a new life. I speak English and Mandarin, as well as two other dialects from China. I study apparel merchandising and management at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. This is my last year of my university studies.

Growing up in China and moving to the United States has given me a unique perspective on life, and I have a lot of experience living around different cultures. Coming to the United States by myself has given me many life skills and has made me more independent. Every time I visit a new place, I gain a greater understanding of people from other places and a greater appreciation for my life back at home. I love to try the different types of foods in the countries I visit, especially the local specialties that you can’t get outside that country.

I am grateful that the Gilman Scholarship was able to make my study abroad dreams come true. I am very excited to study in one of the most fashionable capital cities in the world, so that I can learn new knowledge and skills in the field of fashion. Ultimately, I am excited about my studies, making new friends in a new country, experiencing British culture, food and art, and taking lifelong skills and experiences back home with me.

It will be my pleasure to share my experiences about my trip with all of you and I hope one day you will chase your dreams as I am!
