Traditions That Will Make Your Head Spin

It is the perfect place to spend time with family and friends, but what makes it really cool is that it also serves as an event to honor many other traditions in México!

Why does the community have this tradition?:

The Expofer is a huge community event in Chetumal because, aside from the rides and the doughnuts, a large part of the event focuses on traditional music, crafts and foods from different parts of the country. Vendors sell traditional sweet breads, paletas (ice cream made from fresh fruits) and barbecue from the Yucatán peninsula, and every night different bands and groups perform musical numbers ranging from new pop hits to old folkloric classics. There is also a large artisanal market in the fair that sells handmade products from local communities as well as other traditional goods. It is a one-stop-shop for all your needs, plus it is a ton of fun!

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

The fair is a pretty new event in Chetumal as far as traditions go, but the idea of celebration and time spent together is one of the most important pillars of Mexican culture. Events, festivities and gatherings are held quite often in Chetumal to commemorate big moments (like graduation or marriage), as well as small moments (a new recipe or just to have the everyone together). Families and friends hang out and celebrate often and with great enthusiasm, and they usually host gatherings with great food, music and a lot of laughter. I have already started planning my birthday party here, and I can tell it is going to take a lot of empanadas (my favorite snack) and a lot of balloons!
