Peanut Sauce!

Introduction:

During my first day in Samarinda, my two co-teachers took me around the city. We visited a mosque (the place where Muslim people go to pray), a lantern garden, and lastly, we went to tepian, which means "edge" in Bahasa Indonesia. The tepian in Samarinda refers to the river's edge or the riverside. During the evening, many people bring food carts and sell their products there.

What food did I try?:

The first food I tried was called tahu tek-tekTahu means tofu and tek-tek refers to the sound the seller makes when he taps his spatula on the pan as he walks so that everyone knows what he's selling. Tahu tek-tek is made from rice, tofu, egg and peanut sauce.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

The first time that I tried tahu tek-tek I felt very happy. The flavors were all so delicious and most importantly, I was sharing it with two very kind people that I had just met. I remember thinking that I wanted to return to this place over and over again throughout my ten months here to eat lots and lots of tahu tek-tek.

How is the food prepared?:

For this dish, the rice is cooked in banana leaves, which makes it stick together in round paddies.
