Australians as a whole realize the severity of the situation and are taking active steps to try and preserve the environment as well as identify ways to protect it from further damage in the future. Some prominent examples are the development of environmentally friendly transportation such as trains and metro services in cities, limiting the use of plastics, and the designation of protected areas such as national parks. There have also been concerted efforts to try to build in harmony with the environment as opposed to just building over it.
