How I Get Around Town

Introduction:

Trams are similar to buses and metros in many ways. They are different than metros because they are a little bit faster, and they are different from buses because they run more frequently than buses. A ticket can be purchased from the tram driver for €2.50, or you can buy a green student MoBIB card. MoBIB stands for Mobility in Belgium. The student MoBIB card costs about €55 and allows students to use the tram, bus and metro unlimited times to go anywhere within Brussels. Tram lines run along the street and sometimes cross the same roads that cars do because there isn't a lot of space on some small streets. To enter a tram, you must push the green button on the outside of the doors, and once you enter, find an empty seat or stand somewhere safe. There are usually three to four screens on each tram, which show all the different destinations.

How do people get around?:

Most people use public transportation like the trams, buses, metro or trains. If you have a car, it may be small. There are not many big trucks or large cars on the roads because the roads are very small in Brussels. Other people may choose to get around by using rental vehicles such as the bikes, scooters or mopeds. There are taxis, but they are very expensive here, so it is better to use public transportation. If it is a nice day outside, people may choose to walk and enjoy the weather.
