Food in Peru

Introduction:

Each region in Peru has its own signature dish. For example, Iquitos has a dish called cecina, made with meat, rice with beans and fried plantines, while Callao has great ceviche (special fish dish). Cusco, on the other hand, is famous for its cuy, which is roasted guinea pig. So, you can see that every region in Peru has really great food!

What food did I try?:

This weekend in Iquitos I tried three dishes: cecina, juanes and patarascha.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

All three dishes I tried this weekend were delicious. When I tried the cecina, it felt like I was back home during the summer because the meat was grilled with onions and sausage. The chicken in the rice dough (the juanes) had the same taste as the mexican tamales that my mom makes every christmas. In fact, both dishes reminded me of home. Patarascha was just as good as the others. I usually do not eat fish, but I was recommended this dish, and it was incredible. The banana leaves gave the fish a sweet taste, which was incredible.

How is the food prepared?:

Cecina is made of meat, sausage, rice, beans and fried plantines. Juanes is made with green rice dough and stuffed with chicken, with a side of fried plantines.
