Transportation!

Introduction:

Most days in Thailand, I walk to my different destinations. When I am going to places a little farther away, I take a "grab," which is like Uber, or I'll take the skytrain. Tuk-tuks, which are three-wheeled vehicles, and songthaews (pronounced "song-tao") are also very popular. If I am traveling several hours away, I might take a bus, train or van.

How do people get around?:

In the city, many places are within walking distance. Many people also drive, but the traffic in Bangkok is so bad it can take hours to get to places that are nearby. Bangkok has good public transportation that includes a subway and a skytrain. To get to provinces around Bangkok, it is common to fly, but people can also take trains or buses to get to places farther away.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

This week I traveled in a songthaew for the first time. It is basically a truck with benches where about 15 people can all sit! It is great for traveling in a big group since we can all stay together. At first it was a little scary, but now I really enjoy them.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

There are many different types of transportation in Bangkok since so many tourists come to visit here.
