Traveler Bio

Sawadee (Hello)! My name is Marcel and I am spending this year teaching English in Thailand. I am 21 years old and attended both high school and college in Georgia. I graduated from the University of North Georgia in 2019, where I studied secondary English education. I decided I wanted to teach high school students when I myself was in high school.

From the ages of 6 to 14, I lived in Nevada, but after my freshman year of high school, I moved to Georgia. This transition was difficult for me and I found myself confused about who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. Through the influence of literature and caring teachers, I was able to rediscover my identity and passions. I decided that I wanted to spend my life helping students navigate life through learning, reading and personal relationships.

As I began college, I found that multicultural understanding was a key part in achieving this goal. All people come from different lifestyles and perspectives, and it is necesary for people to feel accepted for who they are and accept others for who they are, too. Because of this belief, I applied for a Fulbright scholarship to teach English in Thailand. After being blessed with the opportunity to travel across the world, I will get to share American culture with my students while learning more about the culture I now live in.

I am so excited to share this exchange with all of you and partner with your class in exploring the world!
