Açaí in Northern Brazil

I added sugar and found it to be quite tasty! I try to take advantage of this regional dish while I'm here and eat it every day.

How is the food prepared?:

Açaí is bought by the liter and its price varies with the seasons. Right now, it is reasonably priced, as the berry is in season. However, it can become quite expensive in the off season. Açaí is cultivated by farmers who plant açaizeros, the palm tree that produces the berries. They harvest the berry and mash it into a pulp, which is sold at markets and supermarkets throughout the region.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Commonly found in the Amazon jungle, the açaízerio was seen as a regional food until the late 20th Century. Açaí is considered a healthy food, rich in nutrients! Its popularity continuous to grow and spread throughout South America and the world. There are many people who cultivate the tree for a living on farms throughout the state of Pará.
