However, this area of study can be broken down into numerous different focuses, such as the study of kinematics, electromagnetism, and particle theory. Another interesting area of study related to Physics is astronomy, which focuses on researching and understanding the different kinds of celestial bodies out in space! I study general physics, so I do not know as much about astronomy as some of my other physics friends who have an astronomy focus.
I decided to study physics because I wanted to learn more about how the world around us can be described by mathematics. When you start learning about physics, it opens up a whole new way of thinking about the space around you. For example, my favorite subfield of physics is kinematics, which describes the motion of objects around you, using mathematics. For instance, using kinematics, if you throw a ball across a field, you can predict things like how far it will land, how high the ball was traveling, and how fast the ball was traveling. To me, being able to make a prediction like that is really cool.
Moving on, for the spring of 2020, I was studying overseas. I studied away in Singapore, which is a small Southeast Asian country located near other countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand. I decided on Singapore because I wanted to travel as far from the United States as possible; and since Singapore is, essentially, located on the other side of the globe from America, it seemed like the perfect destination! Additionally, I chose Singapore because there was a university there, and I wanted to take physics classes while studying abroad.
