Living in the Village!

Introduction:

This week I had the chance to live in Kanye Village. I lived with a host family and observed health clinics around the village. A host family consists of any family structure. They take care of you as if you were a part of their family. In my host family, I had a mother, father, two sisters, two brothers and a dog. Ninie is one of my host sisters and is a middle schooler. She is 13 and is a middle child in her family.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast,  Ninie chooses between corn flakes and queen cakes. Corn flakes are a type of cereal that is also in the United States. Queen cakes are muffins. They come in different flavors such as vanilla and wheat. Ninie's favorite ones are the vanilla. For lunch, Ninie eats at school. Her favorite lunch food is pap and beef stew. Pap is a white thick porridge that can be served with any meal of the day. For dinner, Ninie's mom makes traditional African food. These dinners consisted of two types of meat and 3 sides and a lot of rice. The meats vary between chicken and beef. Ninie's favorite is chicken stew.

What is your house like?:

Ninie's house in the village is very similar to some homes in the United States, which surprised me. In her house, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is also a kitchen, two dining rooms and a living room.
