An Interview with Fifth Graders in Lesotho: Teboho, Karabelo and Boithatelo

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Karabelo: My favorite subject is numeracy.

Teboho: My favorite subject is Sesotho.

Boithatelo: My favorite subject is life skills.

What is your homework like?:

Boithatelo: We do not have a lot of homework. We do it at home. I do it alone.

Teboho: I do my homework with my friends.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

Boithatelo: My favorite game is rock paper scissors!

Karabelo: After school I like to walk home with my friends, and then I eat masimbas!

Teboho: I walk home with my friends after school, and then I play games with cars.

Note: Simbas are a brand of potato chipsand Masimbas can mean any type of chip. Many kids in Lesotho love to eat chips, and I bet many of you do too!

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Teboho: My favorite famous person is Makhadzi, a singer!

Karabelo: My favorite famous person is Rambo, from the movie!

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

Karabelo: I listen to Ntate Stunna! He is a singer of amapiano and hiphop.

Teboho: My favorite music is Sannere, a singer. He is a hiphop singer.

Boithatelo: My favorite type of music is Makhadzi. She is a singer from South Africa.

Note: Amapiano is a style of music from Southern Africa that has a slow, deep beat and lots of piano sounds. People like to dance to amapiano because it has a fun rhythm and strong bass.
