Hi class! Can you believe we’ve already been on this journey together for over two months? Time really does fly by.
I’ve been in Lesotho for about a year and a half now, and it’s hard to imagine that there was a time when I had never even heard of this country. Choosing to be a Peace Corps Volunteer here has changed my life. Not every day has been easy, but every day has taught me something new about myself and the world.
During my time here, I’ve made friends who don’t speak the same language as me, and I’ve taught students who mean so much to me. I’ve also had some unforgettable experiences. I’ve cooked papa over a fire outside, ridden a horse through the mountains and picked fresh peaches in the spring. Some of the most important moments haven’t been big—they’ve been the small, everyday ones.
When I was your age, I had never been outside of the United States, and I didn’t think I ever would. Sometimes new and different things can feel scary, so we stay where we feel comfortable. But after high school, I decided to try something new and go to college in China. That one decision changed my life and opened the door to seeing more of the world.
When I was in middle school, I started learning Chinese.
