The metro is popular in Barcelona and is always crowded with people going to work, school and shopping. If people are not using public transportation, they are walking the streets of Barcelona.
As mentioned, most people here use public transportation to get around. The metro will pretty much take you anywhere near the city, and you just have to figure out which train to take. There are many different lanes you can take that will take you to specific locations. The metro is huge, and walking to different lanes can take a few minutes because you have to walk down long concrete hallways.
I was very nervous to use the metro at first because I was not sure which lane to find and which stops where I should get off. I was very scared I would get lost and not be able to find my way back home, but this all changed once I tried it. The first time I used the metro was with my roommates, and since we are all new in this city, none of us was sure how to use it. We kept stopping at every sign to read which train we needed to get on and which stop we needed to get off. Once I figured out the signs, I gained confidence and was not so scared to use the metro. I memorized which train I needed to get on and off to get back home.
