Traveler Bio

Hi! My name is Frida Castro. I was born in Mexico, but moved to the United States when I was a child. I grew up in Nogales, Arizona. Nogales is a small border town immersed in both U.S. and Mexican culture, so it was easy for me to stay connected to my roots and experience both cultures. After my high school graduation, I moved to Tempe, Arizona to study at Arizona State Univesity. I am currently a third-year student studying global studies. I wanted to be close to home but still have room to grow on my own.

I had always wanted to study abroad, but I thought it would be impossible. It was not until college that I discovered and took advantage of the tools available to me. I looked into many programs and chose a business, international affairs and arts program in Barcelona. This program is perfect for my major and I have always found Spanish culture very interesting. I applied to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program and was fortunate to receive funds for studying abroad.

I am very excited to share my experience with you all since I believe it is extremely important for young people to be aware of the opportunities that there are available to them. I hope you learn as much as possible from our time together. I can't wait to hear from all you!
