Welcome to Trier!

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Usually somewhere around 25-50 cents, but sometimes in Germany you have to pay an extra fee for buying a plastic water bottle (because people here are very environmentally-conscious).

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was a very stereotypical German one- Bratwurst! A bratwurst is a German sausage that’s usually served inside of a fresh bread roll with brown mustard squeezed on top. I think sometimes food tastes better when you’re eating it in a cool place, and I ate my Bratwurst in front of the historic Dom (or cathedral) in Trier. And the meal was truly delicious!

What music did I listen to this week?:

I’m trying to listen to as much German music as possible, so I asked my students for some suggestions. They first told me Helene Fischer, who sings really cheesy love songs. Her most famous song is called “Atemlos,” which is German for “Breathless.” I also listened to a German rapper named Cro, but he sings so fast that sometimes it’s difficult for me to understand what he’s saying!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I LOVE working with my English students! In one class, they all had to write little skits in English. Their plays had to take place in a makeup store, and I had so much fun helping them come up with crazy stories.

What did I read this week?:

I started reading a German book called Buddenbrooks, which is a famous novel with lots of drama about a big, rich, German family. For fun, I’ve also been reading a book called Where’d You Go Bernadette?
