An Interview with my 6th Grade English Class!

Some of us also shop for bread or milk or other things that our parents ran out of.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Our parents have many different kinds of jobs, like bus drivers and architects. One student in our class is from Egypt, and his dad is a neurosurgeon back in Cairo. Our Italian teacher has a daughter who is in our class!

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School always starts at 7:50, and ends at either 1:30 or 2:15, depending on the day.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Most of us ride the bus to school. But it’s not like a school bus in America. Miss Youmans showed us pictures of American school busses, and we don’t have them here. We ride the kind of bus that adults ride, too. But some kids have parents who drive them to school.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

When we get to 8th grade, we will be allowed to leave school to eat lunch in the city. The older kids can go buy whatever they want, like hot dogs or pizza or Brötchen! But we usually eat things from home that our parents made for us. Most of us would say that spaghetti or pizza is our favorite food. And everyone likes ice cream a lot.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

We all speak German, but everyone has to take English classes. The older kids get to take French, Latin or Italian if they want to. In German, we say hello like hallo or moin.
