Contrasting the Different Sections of Ourense

Introduction:

I live in the newer, more modern section of Ourense. This section of Ourense is farther north and is closer to the Miño River. The buildings are much taller, and the streets are much wider and have much more traffic. By contrast, the old, medieval section of the city is located immediately to the south of the modern section. The streets there are narrow and there is almost no car traffic for most of the day.

What makes this environment special or different?:

The medieval section of Ourense is special because of its narrow streets, alleyways and quaint plazas and buildings. Although only some of the buildings have survived for hundreds of years, the old city center resembles the way it would have looked 700 or 800 years ago. Therefore, it is rich with history and there are many nooks and crannies to discover and explore.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

As I mentioned, people walk around this part of the city because the streets are narrow and made of cobblestone. There are usually no cars. The buildings are also small and bunched together, which means that everything in the old city center is within a walkable distance no matter where you are.
