Madrid's Public Transportation

Introduction:

Madrid is not that big of a city, so you can walk everywhere if you've got the time! But if you haven't, then Madrid's public transportation system is the perfect way to get around. One of the things that has impressed me the most with Madrid's lifestyle has been how efficient, inexpensive and easy getting around the city can be.

How do people get around?:

People in Madrid get around using three different transportation modes: Metro, bus, and the Cercanías commuter rail system. All of these services are run by the same company. Madrid's Metro is one of the largest metropolitan networks in Europe. It has over 300 stations and 12 metro lines. You can catch a train here every two minutes, making it one of the busiest systems in the Union! If you want to explore the city above the surface, then the bus system has over 2,000 buses servicing 200 different lines. The third most common mode of transportation is Cercanías, Madrid's commuter rail service (trains). With this system, you can visit the many towns and smaller cities surrounding Madrid.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

Spain is not known primarily as an efficient culture, but the tranportation system has changed my opinion about that.
