Nature

Introduction:

For Semana Santa (Holy Week), I completed a round-trip journey that started in Barcelona, then continued by cruise ship to Rome, then up the Italian coast to Florence, across the mainland to the other coast to Venice, then North to Milan, then westwards to Monaco and then Marseille (France) and lastly back to Spain. Most stops on this journey were at ports or coastal cities (Barcelona, Venice, Marseille, Monaco). Therefore, everywhere we went we would encounter that most common of sea-birds: the gull!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

These animals are typically medium to large sized birds. Their color scheme includes grey and white, with black markings on their wings, head and beak. Sea-gulls have webbed feet because they spend so much time on or near water.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

As I stepped out of the bus in Barcelona (the first stop on my Mediterranean tour), the first thing I noticed was the seagulls soaring over my head. You could hear their loud squawks as you walked down the streets of the city, and once we had arrived at the port, the number of gulls doubled! Since my home-country, Nicaragua, is filled with beaches where I spent many hours during my younger life, the beach is a place that brings me happiness and peace.
