So Many Sheep!

Introduction:

When you think of New Zealand, your first thought may be of white fluffy sheep. Sometimes you can be held up on the road for a long time, waiting for a large flock of sheep to cross the road. In New Zealand, sheep are everywhere! Even in the largest metropolitan city of Auckland, you can find sheep--in a park!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Sheep here come in all sizes and colors. White sheep are most typical and produce white wool that is easy to dye. While there are also black sheep, these animals come from a recessive gene expression and are, therefore, more rare.  There are other color variations; however, white and black sheep are predominantly what we see.  Black sheep are rare, with some having black skin and black wool, and others having black skin with white wool. Black wool is not as popular as white because it is difficult to dye.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

It is exciting to see sheep roaming and grazing everywhere! Unfortunately, the lambs come in spring which doesn't begin until around September 23rd in New Zealand, so I didn't get here in time to see any baby lambs.  I have not seen many sheep around the Wellington region, either,  so seeing the sheep in Auckland made me very happy.
