Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I traveled from Madrid to Barcelona in train, a total of 388 miles! Lucky for me, I made this trip in one of Spain’s high-speed trains. This made the trip was only a little over two hours long!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I started this journey at the airport in Portland, Oregon. From Portland I flew to Frankfurt, Germany (11 hour flight), then from Frankfurt to Madrid (3 hour flight) for Fulbright orientation. After orientation, I took a train from Madrid to Barcelona (2 hours). This adds up to a little over 17 hours – and that doesn’t even count all the buses, subways and walking I did in between!

How did I get around this week?:

I got around this week by using almost all modes of transportation – car, airplane, bus, train, subway, walking… you name it!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

I would say that the most interesting place that I visited this week was the town of Alcalá de Henares, where our Fulbright orientation took place. This is a small town near Madrid, in the heart of Spain. Alcalá de Henares is special because it holds a small-town-feel while also bearing rich history. In fact, it is the town where Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, was born in 1547! My friends and had a chance to visit his house, preserved now as a museum.
