The weather in Barcelona is often mild, with lots of sunshine, balmy temperatures and a nice breeze rolling off the Mediterranean Sea. Sometimes, however, it does get humid! I often find myself feeling hot and sticky. I can’t complain too much, though. After living in Portland, Oregon, I’m in need of sunny weather, humid or not!
Barcelona has a curious assortment of animals. These include lizards of all types, wild pigs, European turtle doves (tórtolas europeas), wild boars (jabalí) near the mountains and green monk parakeets (cotorras monjes). You can tell if a monk parakeet is nearby because they make a lot of noise! In fact, someone who talks a lot is sometimes called a cotorra. Beyond these more “wild” animals, many people in Barcelona own dogs. In the afternoons, any park in the city will be filled with owners walking their dogs!
