Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

People in Slovakia speak their native language, Slovak! Since I am close to Poland, I sometimes hear Polish being spoken, and some of my friends who are in the southern part of Slovakia hear Hungarian, since they are close to Hungary. I have learned a few Slovak words and phrases, but I mostly speak English since it is a common language in Europe!

What type of money is used here?:

Slovakia, like most European countries, uses the euro.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs about €0.50, but it is not common to purchase them in Slovakia. Most people drink tap water from the sink, or they will buy mineral water from the store!

What was the best meal this week?:

It can be hard to find pizza that is similar to the pizza from back at home, but I found some at a restaurant I went to in Poprad! It was the typical thick crust with lots of cheese that I miss from home sometimes.

What music did I listen to this week?:

My music this week was filled with my typical American music--pop and indie rock, like Taylor Swift or Role Model. American music is very popular here. Last weekend, I attended an event where there was a lot of traditional Slovak folk music, which was neat to hear and experience!
