Travel News

Infona is the national forestry institute of Paraguay, and it is a government organization that specializes in the growing and cultivating of trees, as well as their distribution. It has centers where people can learn and specialize in forestry, and it is working to help reforest Paraguay. I met up with almost all the other volunteers in my department (a department in Paraguay is like a U.S. state), and we got a tour of the Infona facility, and we got to take trees home to plant in our community. I now have 100 baby saplings in my backyard which I need to water two times daily, and then I can figure out how I can repot them or plant them around the community.

Other Travel News from this week:

I found out this week that I can take my bike on the bus. After my trek to Trinidad from my town, I realized that I was too tired to turn around the next day and bike for two more days. One of my friends who met us at the Infona Center took his bike on the bus and biked home after, and this inspired me to do the same. I took two buses to get home from Trinidad, and I was able to put my bike under the bus both times. This was a relief, because I did not know how I was going to pack my trees into an already full backpack, and then bike home 80 miles. It is also good to know that if I want to do a bike trip, I can take a shortcut and take the bus part of the way.
