This week, I traveled 120 kilometers, or around 80 miles, to get to the Infona Center. All of this travel was done on the routas, or the highways, that connect the country. My town is right on Routa One, which connects Asuncion, the capital, with Encarnacion, the biggest city in Itapua, my department.
The furthest I have gone on my journey is from Asuncion to Encarnacion, which is 248 miles. On the bus, this takes about eight hours.
This week, I got around by bike, walking, car and bus. Whenever I am going anywhere with my host family, we take their car. For instance, last Sunday, we went to an asado (barbeque) at my host mom's family's house, about seven miles away. I am not allowed to drive a car or a motorcycle, so when I have to get places by myself, I either take my bike or walk. Finally, when I have to go far by myself, I take the bus, which is not the most reliable method but connects most of the country together. I live right next to one of the main routas, so it is easier for me to take the bus than for some of my friends who live in more rural locations.
