I got up close and personal with volcano Santiaguito. Even though it's less than 20 miles from my house, I hadn't made the trek to see it up close. It looked like a whole different planet! It has a rocky, charred landscape, with steam oozing out of vents. There are no plants, and it makes ominous rumbling sounds before... BOOM, exploding ash and lava.
In other news, we celebrated a baby shower for my coworker! Seño Julia is a nurse and is expecting a baby boy this November. We closed the health center to make food, give gifts, wish her well and play games -- guess the tummy size, pass the bottle (hot potato style) and pin the bib on the baby. Excited to meet you baby Mario!
