Hello! My name is Elizabeth Davis, but you can call me Lizzy. I am 25 years old, and I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. I studied biology at Ohio University in Athens, but I have lived in Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Canada, and now the western highlands of Guatemala! I've been so lucky in my life to be able to travel and explore new places, and I want to share some of that magic and excitement with all of you!
After graduating from college, I wanted to use the Spanish I'd learned in school in real life while working with communities and growing in my understanding of a new culture and people. I applied to the Peace Corps with a preference for Spanish-speaking countries and was assigned to work on Maternal and child health here in Guatemala.
I live in a small mountain village in the municipality (state) of Totonicapán, and I work in a health post with the local health care staff. My day-to-day job is in education on healthy practices for teenagers, children, and parents in my town, Aldea Nueva Candelaria, San Cristóbal Totonicapán. In my free time, I love to explore the beautiful nature and culture that Guatemala has to offer - I climb volcanoes, go swimming in lakes and thermal pools, try the local cuisine, and explore!
Everywhere I went, even if just for a short time, I met new people, I learned new skills, and I learned to appreciate the environment and culture around me. I can't wait to share some of that with all of you during this coming school year! Vamos pues!
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
