Babbouche snails love cool, damp places, so they hide under leaves, rocks, and even walls to stay safe from the hot sun. They also eat plants and tiny bits of food they find on the ground. If the weather gets too dry, they make a slimy door over their shell to stay moist until it rains again! Babbouche snails live in gardens, fields, and forests, but you can also find them on walls and sidewalks, especially after it rains.
Snails can be hurt by pollution, losing their homes, or if too many are taken too quickly, but there are SO MANY that there are still plenty around! Babbouche snails are common, and people in Morocco make sure to only take what they need. That way, there are always enough snails for nature and yummy soup!
