






Ramdan just ended (the holiday where Muslims fast for an entire month), and I have to say one of my favorite parts was Iftar, the HUGE dinner we have at the end of the day to break our fast.
Today, I'll be talking about all the delicious foods I've had in Morocco and about my Iftar experiences!
I've had the two staples of Morocco: Couscous and Tea!
Couscous is a type of food made from tiny grains of wheat. It looks like little beads and is often served with stews, vegetables, or meats. In Morocco, couscous is a very popular dish, and it's usually eaten on special occasions. Here in Meknes, couscous is served every Friday!
Mint tea is a very special drink in Morocco. It’s made by brewing green tea with fresh mint leaves and lots of sugar. People in Morocco drink mint tea all day long, and it’s a symbol of hospitality. When visitors come over, it’s tradition to offer them a glass of mint tea to show kindness and friendship. Morocco is famous for how people here pour tea: the higher your pour, the more you appreciate your guest!
I've also tried tanjine, a special food cooked in a cone-shaped pot.
When it comes to Iftar, though, it really depends on whose house you're visiting.
