Carambola, Mamón Chino, y Cas - Oh My!

Introduction:

During my time in Costa Rica, I've gotten to try lots of different new fruits and vegetables. Fruits are part of a healthy and balanced diet and provide a lot of vitamins and minerals that are good for your body and mind!

What food did I try?:

I'm going to talk about three of the most exotic fruits that I've tried here. First, I tried carambola or starfruit. It's called starfruit because it's shaped like a star! It grows on trees and turns yellow when it's ripe. It's delicious in salads or juices and tastes a little bit like pineapple. Another one of my favorites is mamón chino or called rambutan in other countries. It's an interesting-looking fruit. It's red and spiky, and when you open it up, it has a big pit with white fruit surrounding it. To eat it, you take off the red shell and suck off the white fruit while being very careful not to swallow the pit. The texture and taste sort of reminds me of grapes. Lastly, I've enjoyed cas, a fruit that's similar to guayaba. This fruit is usually served in a very delicious drink. It sort of tastes like grapefruit mixed with lemon.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I always love trying new fruits, even if I don't end up liking them that much.
