The Day in the Life of Moroccan Kids

In Morocco, most people's moms are stay at home moms. They stay at home and help prepare food and other things for their family, while the fathers work in various jobs. Rabat is a governmental city, kind of like Washington DC, so a lot of people's parents work for the government here.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Schools start at 8:00 AM and end at 3:00 PM, but some students go to after school programs until 6:00 PM.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Some of the students that I have talked to really enjoy American food like hamburgers from McDonald's. Here in Morocco, McDonald's is called Mc Do, but it tastes just like it does in America, except for the chicken nuggets which taste a little different.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Some schools only speak French, while other schools speak both French and Arabic! Most schools do not teach English so they go to the Youth Center where I work to learn English.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

For Boys: Ayoub, Mohammed, Amien and Saiid

For Girls: Marriem and Layla

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

People study all of the same things that they study in the United States including math, history, etc. The difference is they study Arabic in school as well as French and Islam.

What is your homework like?:

The homework is a lot of language drills because they learn both French and Arabic. They are constantly working on conjugating verbs and sentence structure.
